Know atu Men By THESE Presents, that I, Philip McDonald, of the Town of
Baddeck, in the County of Victoria, in the Province of Nova Scotia, in the Domin-
ion of Canada, merchant, and Mary McDonald, wife of the aforesaid Philip McDon-
ald, for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred and thirty dollars and
seventy-five cents to me in hand paid, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge,
do hereby surrender and for ever quit claim unto Her Majesty the Queen, in trust for
the use and benefit of the Micmac Indians, all those certain parcels or tracts of lands
aud premises known and described as follows, being composed of the islands at the
mouth of Middle River, in the Wagamatckook Indian Reserve, and which may be
described as follows, viz. :—

The six small islands at the mouth of the aforesaid Middle River, numbered one,
two, three, four, five and six, and the several islets in close proximity to each of the
islands, numbered four and five, and other accretions or late formations of earth
added to or about the said described pgemises. To have and to hold the above de-
scribed premises for and on behalf of the aforesaid Micmac Indians.
| In Witness Wuereor, I, the said Philip McDonald, do hereby attach my seal

and signature, and I, the said Mary McDonald, wife of the aforesaid Philip Mc-
Donald, do also, in bar of any and all dower on the premises hereby surrendered,
attach hereto my seal and signature this twentieth day of August, in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven.

ARTICLES OF A TREATY made and concluded this twenty-second day of September,
in the year of Our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven. Between
Her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen of Gyeat Britain and Ireland by Her Commis- :
sioners the Honourable David Laird, Lieutenant-Governor and Indian Superin-_
tendent of the North-west Tiorritorice and James Farquharson Macleod, O.M.G.,
Commissioner of the North-west Mounted Police, of the one part, and the Blackfeet,
Blood, Piegan, Sarcee, Stoney and other indienne) inhabitants of the territory north ;
of the United States houndary line, east of the Central Range of the Rocky Moun-
tains and south and west of Treaties numbers six and four, by their Head Chiefs
and Minor Chiefs or Councillors chosen as hereinafter mentioned, of the other part.

Wuereas the Indians. inhabiting the said territory have, pursuant to an appoint
ment made by the said Commissioners, been convened at a meeting at the “ Black
foot Crossing” of the Bow River to deliberate upon certain matters of interest to
Her Most Gracious Majesty of the one part and the said Indians of the other.

And whereas, the said Indians have been informed by Her Majesty’s Commis=
sioners that it is the desire of Her Majesty to open up for settlement and such other
purposes as to Her Majesty may seem meet a tract of country bounded and described |
as hereinafter mentioned, and to obtain the consent thereto of Her Indian subjects
inhabiting the said tract, and to make a treaty nd arrange with them, so that there:
may be peace and good-will between them and Her Majesty ; and between them and!
